Alexander, Shallow win Junior Sports titles

Kineke Alexander continues to develop a superb record as a 400-metre runner. Her performance at the regional level has aroused the curiosity of many a foreign coach, as well as universities. It is this that resulted in her being awarded an athletic scholarship to Iowa State University last semestre.{{more}}

She has been a consistent gold medal winner on the regional circle, crowned with the 400 metre at Junior Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Mexico last July.

She placed second in the Under 20 category in Bermuda April at the Carifta Games. Alexander dismissed challenges from SVG Women’s Cricket Association Teresha Lavia, and Rugby Union Football Club’s Alexia Glasgow.

And news came last Saturday evening, the same time that her mother was receiving the 2004 Junior Sportswoman of the Year trophy on her behalf, that she had just clocked 53.4 secs to win an inter college meet in the United States. She is now ranked number 9 in the US at that level.

This country can look forward to much better things from this talented athlete.

While, Adonson Shallow is without doubt one of this country’s most dedicated athletes. He has carved out a reputation as the nation’s best field athlete. His performance in the shot putt and discus events has grafted his name in the record books nationally and regionally.

Those accomplishments explain why Shallow eclipsed Corey Huggins from the Tennis Association and the Cricket Association’s wicketkeeper-batsman Seon Sween to take the Junior Sportman of the Year title last Saturday evening.

Shallow has been something of phenomenon with a series of splendid performances in his pet events.
