Greener pastures

Vincentian rugby player Hollis Green has now been chosen for a training camp in Barbados to be held between February 3rd and 6th amongst a shortlist of 24 West Indian players. {{more}}

This comes hot on the heels of Green’s excellent performance for the West Indies B team in the Deloitte and Touche International Sevens in the Cayman Islands in June.

He, along with Anthony Joseph had earlier gained selection for the West Indies Development Team to play in the Caribbean International Sevens Tourney in Trinidad and Tobago early December. There Green’s impressive scoring helped the West Indies squad reach the semi-final. He had demonstrated his speed, sound defence, teamwork and eagerness to learn under the watchful eye of the West Indies selectors.

Green will now join 24 other players at the training camp to be held between February 3rd and 6th. If the Sans Souci resident makes the final 12 he will go on to the International Rugby Board (IRB) sponsored Rugby World Cup (RWC) Sevens Tournament carded for Los Angeles on February 12th and 13th which will showcase the national teams of Fiji, England and Tonga amongst others.

A release from the Rugby Association says Green is currently following a rigourous fitness programme in preparation for the training camp under the watchful eye of rugby coach Scott Hadley (Coach of the Year – 2001), who is working on the player’s passing and overall fitness.

The release said that regular gym sessions to improve Greeen’s “explosive power and strength” are also being provided by Fitness Quest at Villa Gymnasium.

Meanwhile the Rugby Association is appealing to concerns interested in sponsoring Green or supporting the West Indies Sevens Team at the Los Angeles tournament to contact the Association directly.
