Jackson leads Vincy cricket squad

Bubbly leg spinning allrounder Orlanzo Jackson leads a Vincentian squad in quest for retention of the Windwards Cricket. That competition winds up in St. Lucia early December. Jackson will be supported by West Indies call-up Deighton Butler, vice captain. {{more}}The rest of the party is Reynold McLean, Nicholas Baptiste, Kenroy Martin, Roland Wilkinson, Hyron Shallow, Othneil Baptiste, Oneil Thomas, Marlon John, Lyndon James, Norlan Williams and Hank Hall.

Manager is Selwyn Allen with coach Ian Allen.

Nicholas Baptiste, the diminutive right hander from the North Windward village of Sandy Bay, seems set to take an opening spot along with one-time Windwards number three Reynold McLean. Thomas made his debut in 1998 and has a highest score of 63. He has been given a recall after being in the reserve in 2001 and 2003.

Experienced left hander Kenroy Martin, and Roland Wilkinson, called into the Windwards party for the first time earlier this year, are also expected to prop up the order.

Hyron Shallow will be considered an allrounder, as well as Othneil Baptiste.

Lyndon James, who made his Windwards debut earlier this year, will again do the glove work. And his useful batting ability will give some depth to the line-up.

Jackson and Butler, both of whom have established their mark on the regional level, will spearhead the bowling. However, with Butler’s call to the West Indies training party, Hank Hall, a 19-year-old medium pacer from the North Leeward district of Fitz Hughes, is expected to fill the breach. Hall, one of three newcomers, will work with Norlan Williams, a medium pacer, and off spinner Marlon John, the first timers in the outfit.

Four reserves have been named: Dyke Cato, Miles Bascombe, Orlando Simmons and Gerald Gould.
