Troublesome XI, Shot Callers in final

Troublesome Eleven and Vinlec Shot Callers will contest the final of the National Lotteries Top Belair Softball Cricket Competition tomorrow from 1 p.m., at the Dauphine Playing Field.

It was anti-climatic, as the much anti-cipated meeting between Troublesome Eleven and last year’s winners CGM Novice turned out to be lopsided.

Troublesome Eleven, led by a masterful 82 from Stafford Joseph, 21 from Hyron Shallow, and a contribution of 47 from extras, posted 181 in 26.1 overs.

Stanley Butler, 3 for 29, and West Indies call up Deighton Butler, 2 for 17, were the most successful bowlers for CGM Novice.

Playing without two of their top batsmen – Kenroy Martin and Trevor Bailey – Novice meekly humbled their title, crumbling at 63 all out in 19 overs.

Shallow proved to be the wrecker of their innings. He had figures of 5 for 3, and with able support of Winston Cumberbatch, 4 for 10, sealed Novice’s demise.

Novice ended the 2004 competition empty-handed, as they were booted out in the semi-finals of the knock-out by eventual winners CEM Five Roads.

Five Roads’ claim to fame came last Friday, when they downed another former champion, Troublesome Eleven, in the 10 over exercise.

Five Roads hit 92 for 3 in their allotment. Deron Cumberbatch top scored with 29.

Despite Deron Bute’s knock of 44, Troublesome Eleven halted at 89 for 5.

Following tomorrow’s final, the presentation and closing ceremony will take place at the same venue.
