Caribbean football comes to Arnos Vale

If you thought that football action was limited to the Concacaf World Cup qualifying matches, you are wrong. And Caribbean football is kicking up a storm right here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Football lovers will have to thank Hurricane Ivan for causing the shift. Group E of the CFU Digicel Cup has been transferred to Arnos vale. {{more}}

Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, and Bermuda will join Vincy Heat for places in the Digicel Cup.

Following withdrawals of Guyana, Dominican Republic and the Netherlands Antilles, Cuba will receive a bye directly into the Second Round of the inaugural 2004 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Digicel Cup. This is the qualifying competition for the Caribbean Zone to the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup scheduled for July in the USA.

Cuba was set to stage the CFU Group C First Round earlier this month but awaits the Group B runner-up (Dominica, French Guyana, Guadeloupe or host, Martinique) in the Second Round Series set for December 2004. The Group B winner, who was scheduled to meet the Group C runner-up in the Second Round, will now advance directly into the CFU Third Round Series in January 2005.
