D’Affaires reigns

The final came off last Sunday in glorious conditions at Richmond Playing Field.
The weather was a contrast to climatic factors, which prevailed five days previous. The fact that the match was even played attests to the slight treatment this country encountered in relation to other regional states.
The atmosphere at Richmond was typical North Leeward picnic style. Nearly 300 cricket lovers scrambled for every cool spot around the arena to witness the match.
It was a ding dong battle for supremacy, but DâAffaires was featured when it mattered most. Ian John, bowling medium pace, bagged 5 for 24 as Ajuba collapsed to 119 off 21 overs. David Porter, 56, was the backbone of the Ajuba batting. He shared a 57 run third wicket stand with Federal Jeffrey, 12. They took the score from 24 to 81 when Porter went. Thereafter the wheels fell off the Ajuba wagon, and it wobbled to 119.
That summed up resistance by the Spring lads. DâAffaires was dismissed for 161 off 33 overs. With 92 for one at one stage, DâAffaires seemed on course to a formidable total. Harley Skerritt, 52, and Alex Bowens, 40, shared an 80 run second wicket stand. Colin Shoy, 4 for 16, kept a rampaging DâAffaires attack on track. But that score was sufficient thanks to Johnâs penetration, supported by Fitzmore Edwards, 2 for 26, and Alex Bowens, 2 for 27.
A prizegiving function is planned for September 27.
