Novice gives good show in softball tourney

CGM Novice marched into the second round of the National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Softball Cricket Competition unbeaten. And they are on course to retain the league title .

The double crowned champions maintained their unblemished record with a 10 wicket win over Ju-c HMP Stars last weekend. The prison officers posted 142 for 9. Winston Peters top scored with 40, and Brian Hull made 30. {{more}}

Malcolm Alexander returned figures of 3 for 31 and Leroy Farrell 2 for 16 for Novice.

Former national player Gosnel Cupid 60 and former national under 19 player Renrick Williams compiled 59 erased the total without being separated. Novice’s victory came in 15.4 overs, reaching 143.

Old Trafford were shot out for 72 in 13.3 overs against Vinlec shot callers. Keon King bagged 3 for 3 and Sheldon Nanton 3 for 25, as old Trafford found runs hard to come by. Shot callers lost two wickets in reaching 76 in a mere 6.5 overs.

Sheldon Da Souza led the victory charge with 36 not out. Hillside Rollers strolled to a 10 wicket win at the expense of CEM Five Roads.

Five Roads were dismissed for 69 in 18.4 overs, in which Hillside Rollers replied with 70 for no wickets in 11.3 overs. Elvis Woods was the main contributor with 32.

In the weekend’s other match Gomea Bombers made light work of Sugar Corner Giants.

Kevin Huggins 53, and Terrance Baptiste 36, plotted Bombers’ innings of 186 all out in 22.5 overs.

Norman Cumberbatch, 4 for 20, and Oswald Jack, 3 for 24, shared the bowling spoils for the Giants.

But a seven wicket haul by Ovando O’Brien, wrinkled Sugar Corner Giants victory plans, as they were blasted for 79 in 10.4 overs. O’Brien’s wickets came at the cost of 26 runs.

Only Garvin Woods 25, stood in the Bombers’ way.

This weekend will see the final round of matches in the preliminaries.

Tomorrow from 1:00 pm Pine Hill Dairy Nice Radio Clinchers take on Kelbourney Rangers, followed by Tropical Rhythm Older Boys versus N.C.B High Rollers from 3.
