CGM Novice has every intention of defending their National Lotteries Top Belair softball title. They made their position clear last Sunday with an easy win over CEM Five Roads.
Led by a polished 45 from National and Windwards’ all-rounder Kenroy Martin, supported by another former Windwards batsman Gosnel Cupid with 32, Novice tallied 150 for 8 in their 25 overs. Kellorn John bagged 5 for 27, bowling for CEM Five Roads. {{more}}
Martin then took 3 for 14, as Five Roads succumbed at 123 all out in 22.1 overs. Derron Cumberbatch, batting at number 11, top-scored with 36.
Gomea Bombers were also in winners row against Vincom Nex Level. They made 159 for 9 in 25 overs, spurred by Vincentian batsman Denis Byam, 50, and 35 from Lansworth Laborde. Nex Level stopped at 123 in 21 overs. Anthony Charles led the unsuccessful run chase with 34. Kendall Payne was Bombers’ top bowler, taking 4 for 22.
It was also easy pickings for Snipers who met High Rollers.
High Rollers crashed to 81 in 17 overs, undone by Andre Hunte, 3 for 8, and Norlan Williams, 3 for 19.
Hunte then made an unbeaten 33, as Snipers reached 83 for 3 in 12.2 overs.
Like Snipers, Pine Hill Sugar Corner Giants recorded a seven-wicket win.
Giants’ opponent, Old Trafford batted first and laboured to 108 for 7 in the 25-over allotment. Cordel John was his team’s top performer with 35. Julian Peters and Garvin Woods both took 2 for 15 for Giants.
A hard-hitting 53 from Augustine Victory, and Marvin Gibson’s 21, powered the Giants to 112 for 3 in 11.3 overs.
It was a closer encounter between Kingstown Hill United and Hill Side Rollers, with the former winning by four wickets.
Kingstown Hill, replying to Hillside Rollers’ 123 in 19.4 overs, reached 126 for 6, with Anthony Lee leading the way with 33.
Hill Side Rollers’ total was built around Rick King’s 41. Brenton Smith, 3 for 23, and Kareem Peters, 3 for 30, being the wicket takers.
Kelbourney Bangers meet Diamond Demolishers from 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Dauphine Playing Field. Then from 3:30 Troublesome Eleven face Stingers.
Sunday morning from 9:45, Hillside Rollers play Ju-c HMP Stars, followed by a noon fixture when Snipers face Tropical Rhythm Older Boys. Vinlec Shot Callers meet Sugar Corner Giants from 3, in the weekend’s feature match.
