Sparrow Duncan honoured in Toronto

Former national cricketer Samuel “Sparrow” Duncan has been honoured in Toronto.
This came about as a feature match was played August 8 in his honour organized by the Toronto St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Team.{{more}}
The occasion also saw the presence of two of Sparrow’s good friends – Cecil “Nooch” Rose and Rudy Boucher both of whom travelled from the United States.
On the field of play the Presidents’ Eleven, led by former team captain Jimmy Lewis, defeated the Captain’s Eleven, led by current captain, Brensley Dickson. Among the star performers on the winning team was former national player Zepton Greaves, who continues to play league cricket in Toronto. Present also was former West Indies fast bowler, Grayson Shillingford. He played many matches against Sparrow for Dominica, and alongside him for the Windward Islands.
Team Manager Malcolm Garraway recounted some of Sparrow’s glory days including his penchant for going to the rural districts to assist with school teams. Also mentioned was his role in the development of many national players including opening batsman Haynes and Colville Browne. Sparrow, on receiving his plaque of honour, thanked his friend David Jack for hosting him while in Toronto. He thanked the team for holding him in such high esteem, concluding that he was overwhelmed by the gracious treatment.
