Dehring: No decision on matches yet

NO DECISION has been made on match allocations for the 2007 Cricket World Cup (CWC).
That’s the word from CWC managing director Chris Dehring in response to a report quoting Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board of Control chief executive officer Alloy Lequay. {{more}}
“Venues have been selected but no decision has yet been made with regard to the allocation of matches for the ICC Cricket World Cup WI 2007,” Dehring said.
“This week we will receive a report from the Venue Assessment Team on what allocations should be made among those countries.”
The VAT’s recommendations on the eight packages, including the finals, semifinals and opening ceremony and match will be discussed by the CWC board and the International Cricket Council (ICC) at the scheduled CWC 2007 board of directors meeting on Monday and the announcement will be made on the following day in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
A report quoted Lequay as saying that Barbados and Jamaica would be vying to host the final, and there were further remarks that two other countries would have failed to make the list of eight venues announced on Monday in London.
“While I will not comment on the specifics of Mr. Lequay’s speculation, I can say that his reference to Cayman Islands and Bahamas being left out of the venue allocations is misplaced, since neither country had submitted bids to host matches in the CWC 2007,” Dehring said.
“Cayman Islands and The Bahamas withdrew from the process quite some time ago.”
The eight countries which will host matches are Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago.
Three countries were unsuccessful in the bids. They are United States of America, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Bermuda.
