Maples are new netball champions

After two and a half months of competitive action, the final whistle was blown on the 2004 Cable and Wireless National Netball Tournament.
The tournament ended Wednesday at the Kingstown Netball Centre, with the staging of the Division Two A Knock Out finals and the Closing Ceremony .{{more}}
But it was a bitter-sweet ending, as the much anticipated clash between 2004 league champions Vita Malt Maples and 2003 winners C and R Enterprises Sion Hill, for the Division One Knock -Out title did not materialize.
Sion Hill , which last month blasted their way to the pinnacle of sub-regional netball, winning the OECS Club Championships, did not show up at last Wednesday’s final.
Administrators of the club cited, ‘injuries to key players’ as the reason for their no show.
In competitions decided earlier in the tournament, Gatorade Strikers Two triumphed in Joyce Frank Division 2B of the Knock -Out, with Yamaha Trac doing so in the Peggy Hull Division 3.
Trac added the Knock Out to the league title. The Cecelia Richards Under-16 was won by Bishop’s College Kingstown.
Bishop’s were also winners in the league competition.They were followed by St. Joseph’s Convent Comets and Mitresonics in that order.
N.C.B Valley Netters copped the Division 2B league crown, with Texaco New Generation placing second and Bequia Combined third.
The Division 2A league title was captured by Standard Shippers Falcons, with Maples second and Green Hill Youths third.
Vita Malt Maples secured the Team Shooting competition. They recorded a 69.72%, shooting 76 out of 109 tries. Placing second in that competition was Trac with 60 %, and Gatorade Strikers registering 56 %.
In the Individual Shooting Category, Thelma Foster of Vita Malt Maples was first. She topped with 75.4%. She was followed by Vaneal Williams of Trac and Adonna Williams of Texaco New Generation, second and third respectively.
