Vincy Women in Caribbean tourney

Share

Vincentian women basketballers are looking to take part in the 2004 Caribbean Senior Basketball Champion-ships.
That is scheduled for June 11 to 19 in Santiago, Cuba.
Secretary of the local Basketball Federation Sabrina Mitchell is confident that the Vincentian basketballers can make a good impression at that championship.
She thinks that their chances of getting in the top three are “very good”. In preparation for that tournament, a number of local basketballers are in training. The management/coaching staff will include Wayne Williams, Victor “Voot” O’Garro and Kenlyn Clouden.
Mitchell expects that the final squad will be selected following a training camp, which is expected to be held in Santo Domingo. That camp will be one week before the championship in Cuba. {{more}}
Mitchell expects a number of overseas-based players at colleges and universities to be in the line-up for possible selection.
The cost for participation in that tournament is slated at EC$90,000 and Mitchell announced that the government has pledged its support for the team’s participation.
Should SVG get in the top three, they will qualify for another tournament in Guatemala next July.
Seven teams have registered for the Caribbean tournament so far. They are US Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Jamaica, Barbados, Puerto Rico, Cuba and SVG.
