Digicel reveals Group G soccer fixtures

The fixtures for Group G of the Digicel Caribbean Cup were announced recently in Barbados. Barbados who emerged top of their first round Group B will now play host to Bahamas, Bermuda, and neighbouring St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

This second round stage of the tournament will take place at the National Stadium from November 19th – 23rd. The first of three double-header fixtures will kick-off on Sunday November 19th with an opening clash between Bermuda and St. Vincent and the Grenadines kicking off at 18.00 hrs. The second match of the night, with a kick off of 20.00 hrs, will see Barbados versus Bahamas.

The matches on Tuesday, November 21st, will feature Bahamas against Bermuda, followed by Barbados who will take on the surprise second place qualifier from the preliminary Group D matches in Jamaica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In what was the shock of the first round qualifying groups saw the St. Vincent and the Grenadines stun the Caribbean football community by snatching the second qualifying position and knocking out the current Digicel Caribbean Cup title holders, Jamaica. {{more}}

The penultimate match of Group G, on Thursday, November 23rd, will see Bahamas take on St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the final fixture will be Barbados versus Bermuda. The matches will kick off at (18.00 hrs) 6.00 pm and (20.00 hrs) 8.00 pm respectively on all three days.

The top two teams in Group G will advance to the eight team finals tournament which will take place in Trinidad in January 2007. The third placed team will go through to a round robin play off group with a chance to also gain entry to the all important Digicel Caribbean Cup finals.

Barbados goes into the second round with high hopes of progressing from the qualifying group. The Barbados team won their Digicel Cup first round qualifying group in Antigua in September. Their record thus far has been impressive without suffering a loss to date in the competition:- They drew with St. Kitts and Nevis one goal each; defeated hosts Antigua and Barbuda 3 to 1 and recorded their biggest margin of victory defeating Anguilla 7 to 1 to top that group.
