Stapleton was the dominant partner in a stand with Teshern Lavia 33 not out. The pair put on 140 in an unbroken second wicket stand to seal victory for Peto Stars.

The victors rattled up 149 for one in 12 overs in response to Somerset’s 144 for 5 off their 20 overs.

Inevitably, Stapleton earned the Man of the Final award. His last five runs coming courtesy of an overthrow as Somerset crumbled to defeat.

A large crowd endured a period of dodge and peep, as intermittent showers delayed the match for three hours. Those who stayed would have felt that it was worth the wait.

Somerset batted cautiously reaching their total. Their innings was due in large measure to Gibbs James with an unbeaten 75. Kent Lewis 2 for 25 was the most successful Peto Stars bowler.

After the loss of an early wicket, it was the Stapleton show, with Lavia almost a silent player, but with some telling counter punches.

Included in the crowd was Vinlec’s Joann Richards. She pledged her company’s commitment to the tournament and expressed the hope of seeing the tournament grow from strength to strength.

She also handed over the awards.

Lavia was rewarded for his consistency during the tournament taking the prize for most runs and was also adjudged Man of the Series. His teammate Ronique LaBorde had the most wickets.

John Joyette from Winterset, was dubbed the Most Exciting wicketkeeper.

Awards also went to Vesta Laborde and Matthias Nanton, the most regular spectators female and male.
