DOTS tennis school celebrates two years in the business
Two years ago national tennis champion Deron Grant and his partner Onike Spann realized that there were not enough training programmes available to children, and so the Deron and Onike Tennis School (DOTS) was born.
Located at the Montrose tennis court, next to the Nutricia netball complex, DOTS which began with a hand full of students, now boasts of having 40 children registered in their school.{{more}}
âWe were looking to develop young people especially those in our community,â said Grant as he reflected on the success of the school in a recent interview with Searchlight SPORTS EXTRA (SX).
Grant also initiated the primary and pre-schools tennis programme after being challenged by Parliamentary Representative of West Kingstown the Hon. Rene Baptiste and former director of Sports Lynette Glasgow. He currently works with seven pre-schools and eleven primary schools after starting the programme with one primary and one pre-school.
Onike has recently earned his level 2 coaching certificate and Deron is soon to follow this lead as they seek to sharpen their skills.
A special ceremony will be held tomorrow, Saturday, September 02 at the New Montrose tennis court as part of the anniversary celebrations.
