Helping Hand Centre receives television set from SVCB

STUDENTS AT THE Helping Hands Centre at New Montrose now have a television set thanks to the social committee of the St Vincent Co-operative Bank Limited (SVCB).

The social committee of the SVCB, also known as ‘The Penny Bank’ came to the assistance of the Helping Hands Centre after it was pointed out that the school for differently abled children did not have a television.

Last week, during the handing over ceremony, the SVCB’s branch ambassador Natasha John said she was honoured to make the donation on behalf of the bank’s staff.

“We learned the school needed a television and the staff put all hands-on deck to make it possible. We thank the Helping Hands for giving is the opportunity to team up with you to deliver this television,” John told students and coordinator at the institution Annis John-Daisy.

Accepting the television, John-Daisy said the centre is always looking at ways to entertain the children.

“We did not have a television so we had to be satisfied with what we had. So it’s a special time for them today and we are so happy that you all can do this and I know that it will bring them joy,” said John-Daisy.

Witnessing the hand over were the bank’s recoveries officer Kevin Daniel, senior accounts clerk Claudius Millington and compliance officer Iyana George, chairman of the committee.

The money used to purchase the 32-inch TV was raised by selling sweets during the Valentine’s Day period, with the bank matching the funds raised.
