US$1 million Library to be erected at Richmond Hill

Within six weeks of the swearing-in of his Unity Labour Party (ULP) Government, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves journeyed to the Republic of China (ROC) to secure, among other things, economic assistance for the construction of a new, modern public library for St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Generously, the ROC donated US$1 million to the cause. {{more}}

On Thursday, September 6, 2001, Prime Minister Gonsalves and Chang Chun-hsuing, Premier of the Republic of China on Taiwan, on the occasion of his state visit to St.Vincent and the Grenadines to mark the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between both countries, participated in breaking the ground at Richmond Hill where a new modern library will be constructed.

The new facility will also house a national archives and auditorium lecture hall. It will be leading a branch network of 17 branch libraries, several community libraries and many school libraries.
