We’re Out To Build A New St. Vincent

23.OCT.09

by Ebenezer Duncan (c)

1. Oh there’s a lovely island in the Caribbean Seas
With cocoa, citrus, coconut and fine banana trees
There’s arrowroot and sugarcane a waving in the breeze
    St. Vincent is its name{{more}}

REFRAIN

We’re out to build a new St. Vincent
We’re out to build a new St. Vincent
We’re out to build a new St. Vincent
The future’s in our hand

2. We must learn to kill our country’s pests and rid her of their blight
And while against these deadly foes
    We earnestly will fight
We’ll not forget the other pest
     More deadly in their might
    That spoils St. Vincent’s name

3. The hate we bear within our hearts the grudge that never ends
The envy, greed and selfishness, the pride that never bends
The ugly self that keeps us back from saying “let’s be friends”
    These spoil St. Vincent’s name

4. God has a plan for everyone, for me as well as you
To rebuild this little island till it’s altogether new
So men and women boys and girls there’s work for us to do
    To build St. Vincent’s name
