Argyle International to re-open tomorrow
The Argyle International Airport
Press Release
April 23, 2021

Argyle International to re-open tomorrow

After forced closure due to the eruption of the soufriere volcano which dumped substantial amounts of ash on the Argyle International Airport-AIA- that facility is scheduled to re-open tomorrow, April 24.

“ The public is asked to appreciate that cleaning will be ongoing, as ash persists in the atmosphere and is continuously redeposited on the compound,” a release from the airport stated.

It said the cargo terminal will return to normal operations from 8:00am today, Friday April 23, 2021.

With respect to airports in the Grenadines, the AIA release stated that: “JF Mitchell airport remains open under special conditions, due to the terminal building repair work in progress. The Canouan, Union Island and Mustique airports remain operational from 9:00am to 5:00pm”.

The release, signed by Chief Executive Officer of the AIA, Corsel Robertson, pointed out that: “Argyle International Airport (AIA) continues to make significant strides in the process of cleaning the aerodrome, to ensure that all international standards to accommodate aircraft are achieved,” but added also that: “the public is asked to appreciate that cleaning will be ongoing, as ash persists in the atmosphere and is continuously redeposited on the compound.

Appreciation was extended “to everyone who contributed to AIA returning to operations by way of water and masks donations, equipment and manpower”.
