All international flights into AIA cancelled

ALL INTERNATIONAL flights into the Argyle International Airport (AIA) have been cancelled.

Yesterday, March 30, Caribbean Airlines announced the suspension of its service operating between New York (JFK) and St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVD) with immediate effect, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Information on the resumption of operations will be communicated as soon as the position changes,” a release stated.

“As the global situation continues to evolve rapidly, non-residents of the United States currently booked to travel are advised to contact their travel agent or airline contact to make the necessary changes to their ticket as they may not be allowed to board,” the release said.

And American Airlines, which had earlier said that its last flight from the Miami International

Airport into the AIA would be Wednesday April 1 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, said on Monday that it had cancelled that flight. June 4 has been tentatively given as the date for the resumption of flights.

Earlier this month, Air Canada announced that the last flight to operate from SVD to Toronto (YYZ) would be on March 29.

“The route will be paused for the month of April and is planned to resume on May 4, 2020 however this is subject to change based on the development of the global situation.

“Air Canada is continuing to monitor this evolving situation closely …and will adjust its schedule as appropriate.”

The AIA remains open, with regional airline LIAT having just one scheduled flight a day, down from seven, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
