SVGTU advises teachers to stay home

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers’ Union (SVGTU) is advising its members to stop going to school to administer classes.

A release from the Union noted that the Government made the decision to close all schools acrosss the country in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

It said that this decision was made to ensure the safety of teachers, students and their immediate families and therefore should be treated with urgency.

“The executive of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers’ Union therefore advises all its members to desist from going to school to administer classes during this period,” the release said. “Remember, your health is your wealth! Let us approach this situation with extreme caution, and adhere to the mandates of the health professionals and authorities to guarantee our health, and that of our loved ones.”

The Union is also urging teachers to continue practicing social distancing and good hygiene. It is also encouraging its members to stock up on basic necessities including medication, exercise at least once daily and find innovative ways to reach students virtually.

“Observe the health protocols and keep safe,” the release said.
