Ministry of Health expands pharmacy services in Canouan

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment (MOH), said it has doubled the number of Pharmacy Days in Canouan from once weekly to twice a week.

In a release, the MOH said a public pharmacist would now be available to fill prescriptions on that island on Wednesdays and Fridays, instead of Wednesdays only as previously obtained.

It said this decision was justified by the increasing demand for pharmacy services on Canouan, noting that in a recent reference year, more than 1,200 patients were seen on a particular clinic day on Canouan in the absence of a pharmacist. The new measure would result in an additional 50 pharmacy days per year, and is an intermediate step towards the goal of having a pharmacist permanently stationed on Canouan.
