Hance and Problem Child for International Soca Monarch semis

Soca artistes Hance John and Shertz ‘Problem Child’ James have been selected to participate in the semi-finals of the International Soca Monarch competition in Trinidad and Tobago.

A release from the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) said Hance John has been selected in the Groovy category and Problem Child was selected in the Power category.

The CDC said as an organization, they facilitated the entry of Vincentian artistes who placed in the top three positions from the 2019 Ragga Soca and Soca competitions.

“The artistes who placed in the top three positions from the 2019 Ragga Soca and Soca competitions were asked to fill out the entry forms and to make submissions to the Carnival Development Corporation’s office. Development and Marketing Officer of the CDC, Mr Esworth “Ezzie” Roberts travelled to Trinidad to submit the entries at the office of the International Soca Monarch on Thursday, January 23 ahead of the Friday 24 deadline.

The list of artistes and songs submitted were: Derron ‘Magikal’Rouse – Bloody Hell Crazy; Hance ‘Hance’ John – Uptown Party; Villroy ‘Tuffa’ Jack – Liver; Chewalee Johnson – Rum Cheaper Than Woman.

An entry was also submitted for Sita the Lyrical Diva who had requested assistance from the CDC as her song, “Matey” was getting positive reviews in Trinidad & Tobago.

Shertz ‘Problem Child’ James who is currently in Trinidad submitted an entry independently.

The semi-finals will be held on Saturday, February 2 at Arima Valedrome from 3:00 pm.

The CDC has congratulated both artistes and offered support going forward, the release from the CDC said.
