Vincentian appointed first Director of Energy in Montserrat

A Vincentian has been appointed the first Director of Energy in Montserrat.

Kenrick Burke, who hails from the north leeward village of Rose Hall, was appointed on September 1, 2019 to the position in the Ministry of Communications, Works, Energy and Labour in Montserrat.
A former student of the St Vincent Grammar School and the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, Burke graduated from the University of the West Indies (St Augustine Campus) with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds a Master’s degree (with distinction) in Energy Management from the Otago University in New Zealand.

Burke also worked as a lecturer, a technician at VINLEC and at Cable and Wireless, before migrating to work in Trinidad as an Energy Manager at Energy Dynamics Limited, where he resided with his wife Shanta Burke and son Kanyin Burke. 

Elated about his new appointment, Burke said he is happy to make history in Montserrat. 

According to a release, the Ministry of Communications, Works, Energy, etc said Burke’s appointment comes at a critical time, as the Ministry continues to explore several key initiates geared at energy exploration and conservation on the Island. 

The Director of Energy will be expected to coordinate the activities related to energy conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy for the Government of Montserrat; explore options with respect to investments in alternative forms of energy; deliver the energy policy, strategy and action plan; develop the Energy Unit and its work programme, among other responsibilities.
