Sydna & Japheth Foundation assists more students on Bequia

The Sydna and Japheth Hazell Foundation, which is in its second year of operation, has offered assistance to three more students from Bequia to help them better access secondary education in Kingstown.

The three students, Zohanna Ollivierre, Amari Hercules, and Nyema Bernard, are first form students of the St Vincent Grammar School, and the Girls High School, and join three other students who were sponsored last year. Two of the students from last year are attending the Girls’ High School, and the Boys Grammar School, while the third is attending the Bequia Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School.

The students who opt to attend school on mainland St Vincent are awarded the cost of ferry transportation to school for five years, on the condition that they maintain an average of 70 per cent, while those who choose to attend school on Bequia will have their tuition covered for the same five years, with the same performance condition.

While the Board of Directors of the Sydna and Japheth Hazell Memorial Fund has no desire to be a watchdog over these students, it hopes to promote discipline, dedication to work, good stewardship, and a love of country among the students of the State, and will have an eye on the performance of the students funded under this programme.

The scholarship, which is very competitive, is offered to the CPEA students of all the primary schools on Bequia as a continuing community service.
