The Taiwan Technical Mission conducts ICT training at the Sir Louis Straker LRC
Press Release
March 13, 2017

The Taiwan Technical Mission conducts ICT training at the Sir Louis Straker LRC

Starting from March 8, the Taiwan Technical Mission, in conjunction with the Division of Adult and Continuing Education, premiered a 6-week session Information Technology Courses at Layou’s Sir Louis Straker Learning Resource Center.

The IT courses comprises basic level course in the morning and advanced level in the afternoon and each course is 2-hour long.

11 Layou residents have registered to attend the morning session, meanwhile 22 people attend the afternoon session.

The basic course is lectured by Jess Huang, ICT project assistant for the TTM. As a veteran IT teacher, Huang imparts simple informatics knowledge such as computer components introduction, typing, Internet surfing, Microsoft Office programs and basic coding.

The advanced level course is facilitated by David Kuo, another ICT project assistant for the TTM. With 6-year IT teaching experience, Kuo will teach the attendees how to use MIT App Inventor program to design smart phone apps.

Taiwan’s ICT industry boasts of about three-quarters of the world’s production of PCs, a quarter of the world’s semiconductors and a fifth of the world’s mobile phones. Taiwan owns many research centers and universities which train thousands of IT professionals annually. As a close ally of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Government of Republic of China(Taiwan) and St. Vincent and the Grenadines have jointly developed several ICT programs. Both governments are currently implementing Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS) project, which aims to create a digital government in this country.
