The cause of one is the cause of all

EDITOR: The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Public Service Union (PSU) is greatly concerned with the violence committed against woman and girls in our society. We are deeply disturbed and saddened with the most recent incident that has sent shock waves throughout the nursing fraternity and the PSU family of which the victim was a member. At this time we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late nurse Arianna Taylor-Israel, a dedicated and hardworking member of the nursing fraternity. We are outraged with the void this heinous act has left within our hearts and therefore strongly condemn all acts of violence committed against women in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the world on whole.

We are cognizant of this epidemic that continues to plague the lives of many women and girls of our nation.

The PSU is saying enough is enough; we refuse to accept the normalisation or any justification
for violence and sexual harassment against our women and girls. The SVG Public Service Union remains open to any other organization who wishes to unite in the fight against all forms of violence; we also call on the government to ratify the ILO Convention and recommendation C190 “Violence and Harassment”.

The new Convention No 190 provides a momentum for trade unions and other stakeholders to fight against gender-based violence.

The PSU is inviting its members and the public to unite in the fight against violence in any shape or form as our women play a pivotal role in the sustainable development of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
