In the midst of life we are in death

EDITOR: The death of KOBE BRYANT has sent shock waves across the world. This reminds us of the saying: “in the midst of life we are in death” and as Amos 4: 12 encourages us to prepare to meet thy God.

It will do us well to live in love and with a sense of knowing that we are here today but can be gone tomorrow. While many make preparations in terms of insurance and death benefit, we seldom make preparation for our eternal destination. We many times live as though we would not die.

We need to let go of the hatred, malice, envy and replace them with love, forgiveness and appreciating each other. I encourage us to get back to God and live godly in this world. Let us stop the backbiting, slander and pulling down of each other.

I encourage us as a nation to repent of our sins and turn to God. It is also important to appreciate each other while they are alive. Far too often we take each other for granted and wait until they are dead to shower praise upon them. While doing so after the person is dead has its place and helps in the preservation of their memories and the acknowledgement of the person’s life and times, we need to give them their proverbial flowers while they are alive.

Sometimes we take for granted that all is well and seldom consider how short life is. Thus let us make these moments count and make the best use of them. I know that it is election year, but we can omit the slander and personal attacks. We can omit the hatred and breaking of friendship, knowing that without warning we can loose our friends.

May God Almighty bless us and guide us.
