‘Run Wid It!’  – parents, guardians

EDITOR: Run with what? Someone else’s possession? Absolutely NO! That is asking for trouble! I am urging parents and guardians to run with the great idea that tells you to spend more time with your children. It is a way of telling your children that you really love them.

In many communities, parents and guardians prefer to be with someone else loitering, or just chatting for extended periods about non-essential things. Deuteronomy 6:7 tells parents/guardians to spend much time teaching children God’s standards – in the house, on the road, etc. Doing so, your children can be protected against bad influences, including negative association, use of harmful drugs, indecent language, and more. Proverbs 1:8, 10, 15.

While nothing is wrong to have positive, upbuilding conversations with a neighbour, this should not result in children being neglected. Teachers at times express concern over the fact that many children do not express themselves well when given an opportunity to do so. Teachers may have to be assisting them consistently. So I urge parents to spend more time with your children – talk to them and let them express their feelings too. Let them look at clean TV shows with children and see how these children on TV express themselves. Then they can relate what was seen in their own words.

Parents, guardians, you would never regret spending more time and talking with your children. They will develop better conversational skills and learn right from wrong according to the standards of our loving Creator and God. Run with this great idea, do it, and reap wonderful results after. Galatians 6:7, 9.
