We are heading for destruction if …

Editor: There are few adults left whom the young people can emulate. Sad, isn’t it? I was listening to a call-in programme on a radio station on Monday morning, where some persons called relating to my last article in the Searchlight newspaper. They were saying that we cannot blame the young people; we have to blame the adults. I have said time and time again that there are some adults who are very poor examples and they have to share the blame, but young people have to take their share also.{{more}} Let me explain my point. There are some parents who dress their children like they are big people and sometimes I just have to shake my head when I see these things. Some adults, especially some ladies, the way they dress, they provide very poor examples for the young ones. Sometimes, I wonder if they have a mirror at home. Let’s not forget that some radio announcers play music that promotes sex and violence. They have to take some of the blame also.

These are some of the questions that I am going to ask:

1) When the children leave for school, who checks the vans that they go to school in?

2) Why are they choosing the vans that play the kind of music that would cause them to do the wrong things?

These young people are at an age where they should know right from wrong. These are persons who, I believe, should know what they want out of life, set goals and have dreams. So. why mess up their chance to succeed in life?

You don’t have to make certain mistakes in life; you can learn from other people’s mistakes. So, you want to see how it feels? That is foolish and it may not end well for you. You may never bounce back from the consequences of those mistakes. On the other hand, there are some parents who do all that they can to make sure that their children get the best. They make many sacrifices and still those children turn out ungrateful. That’s their choice. Remember that the choices we make today will determine our destiny, and our attitude will determine our altitude.

This situation calls for all hands on deck. I am not one of them who talk about how much they love their country and just sit back and see the wrong things that are happening and do nothing about it. I love my country; that’s why I am taking the time to put pen to paper, so that I can highlight certain things, so that they can be rectified and positive changes can be made. As I have said before, we have lives to save, so let us do something about it. Talk is cheap. Action speaks louder than words. Let’s not be like those who “Sound good on radio and look good on TV” and that’s all about it. Let us try to leave the world better than we found it.

In conclusion, I say that we have left the most important person out of our lives. We only remember Him when there is a tragedy. Conveniently, we call on Him and when He answers us and we get what we ask for, we forget Him until something else happens and we have the need for Him again. That person is the Almighty God. Oh how He wants to help us, but it seems that we don’t need Him, just what He can do for us.
