We need to take pride in our country

Editor: We know that tourism is very important to the development of this country. Every means possible must be put in place to attract visitors to our shores. Similarly, every effort must be made to stop anything that will discourage tourists from coming to our shores.{{more}}

One of the things that can discourage visitors is the condition of the waterfront. The various little structures that are erected across the waterfront make it look unsightly. The waterfront should be an area where persons can come and have a relaxing time on the beachfront. But the sight of so many little shacks makes the scenery unattractive.

I know that many would argue that it is a free country and everyone has a right to earn a living. This I agree with. However, we also are aware that some of these little structures are an obstruction to vehicles having a parking space. This is seen in the area behind the Anglican School and Quality Paint.

While persons need to survive and earn a living, it also takes away the beauty of the capital, Kingstown. What is even more unsightly is the garbage that is disposed of in the drains in front of the exit from the Leeward bus terminal, along that line.

As Vincentians, we have to take pride in our country; thus, it would be nice if something is done to this situation. Thanks.
