Respect God – use his name!

Fri Jan 02, 2015

Editor: “Our Father which art in heaven, HIDDEN be thy name.”

Is that what Christ said in the Lord’s Prayer? Of course not! Rather, we read: “Our Father which art in heaven, HALLOWED be thy name.” Matthew 6:9. Firstly, the fact that Jesus said of his Father, “Hallowed be thy NAME” proves that the Father, God, HAS A PERSONAL NAME. While some translations have omitted God’s name, others have not. Thanks to the recent DIVINE NAME KING JAMES BIBLE that has seen it fit to restore God’s name, JEHOVAH, at least 6,972 times in verses where it was found originally.{{more}}

This version has followed other versions such as the NEW WORLD TRANSLATION OF THE HOLY SCRIPTURES, AMERICAN STANDARD VERSION, YOUNG’S LITERAL TRANSLATION, THE BIBLE IN LIVING ENGLISH, and DARBY TRANSLATION. We say thanks also to these translations for restoring God’s name to where it was originally written, thus showing respect for God and His Name. We properly show respect to Jesus Christ as God’s special Son, freely using his name in speech, and rightly so. (Luke 1:32; John 3:16) Jesus honoured his Father by using His name, making it known to others as John 17:6, 26 clearly prove.

How wise it really is when we follow Jesus’ example and show deep respect for God and His Name by using it respectfully in our speech and in prayer. Ask yourself: How would I feel if I had a friend who on purpose, never used my name? Hence, how does God feel when people fail to use his name on purpose? Further, John 17:3 shows that God wants persons to come to know him, the ONLY TRUE GOD, along with His Son, and gain everlasting life. Is it reasonable to believe that a person will truly know God if he deliberately ignore using His Name? The name JEHOVAH is a name to be held in the HIGHEST esteem; yes, it’s the name of the Most High.

Psalm 83:18; Isaiah 12:2. It is the GREATEST name in the entire universe. We sing the song: “I am under the Rock. The Rock is higher than I. JEHOVAH hide me…” Why not then respect the Most High, the only true, living God and follow Jesus’ example in making proper use of God’s great and glorious name, JEHOVAH. 1 Peter 2:21.
