Bring back good manners
Editor: It is really pitiful when walking through Kingstown or elsewhere, you say “hiâ to some people â including adults and secondary school students, and they look at you as if youâve come from Mars or some other unknown planet. Or they even push their mouths or put their noses as if theyâre smelling something bad. It is as if youâre an alien who does not know that you shouldnât say hi to people you donât know.{{more}}
Humans are supposed to be the most intelligent of all of Godâs creations. Yet, at times, some people make it appear as though we are the least intelligent. We know that we live in the Last Days, as the Scriptures state, so we can expect the above attitude (2 Timothy 3:1-5).
However, this does not mean that we have to be part of the negative fulfillment of prophecy. Parents and teachers are expected to teach children good manners, including saying hello, good morning, thank you etc (Ephesians 6:4).
Some parents and teachers do so. But many parents do not instill proper values in their children â they are not mannerly themselves, so their children turn out the same. Interestingly, some unmannerly parents expect their untrained children to be mannerly; they scold them for being unmannerly when they themselves are not setting a proper example for them. How much better it is when parents set a good example in displaying good manners and teaching their children to be likewise. How much sweeter it is when you say hello to someone you know or donât know, yet that person responds by saying hello. Young ones, teenagers, and adults must strive to show a mannerly attitude. Being rude is certainly NOT smart; itâs really foolish! As a people, the highest form of Godâs creation on earth, let us try to display good manners at all times! Yes, bring back good manners in society!
