Those bright white lights

Tue June 18, 2013

EDITOR: I have been driving for the last 29 years and I know that as a driver, you have to be considerate to other road users, but driving on the roads these days, you have to be so careful. You have to know that while driving at night, when another vehicle is approaching, you have to dim your lights. Well it looks like we will have to wear dark shades while driving at night, because there are some vehicles that have these bright white lights and they are on all the time.{{more}}

I understand that some vehicles come with these lights, but for heaven’s sake, the police should make sure that these lights are removed from these vehicles before they go on the road. Sometimes when you are approaching these vehicles, you cannot see anything because the lights are so bright that there is total darkness in front of you. These lights would be very useful in foggy conditions, but we do not have fog in St Vincent and the Grenadines, except if you are driving up Soufriere mountain.

I remember one night, I encountered one of these vehicles and I had to come to a dead stop. I indicated to the driver to turn the lights off because of the effect they had on me and he refused to do so. We were there for a while until I could not take it any more, so I moved off cautiously. When I got close to the driver, I mentioned to him about the lights. Well, I got the length of his tongue. I guess after that he needed to scrub his tongue, his words were so dirty! It seems like we are taking everything for granted and just going about doing our own thing without considering other people’s feelings or safety, or for that matter, the laws of the country. I ask the relevant authorities to do something about this issue. I am writing not only on my own behalf, but on behalf of all other drivers out there who are affected.
