Sodomy by birth or by choice – A bibical response to homosexuality

Tue Dec 18, 2012

Editor: The sin of sodomy is not only wicked, but the Bible says it is exceedingly sinful. Genesis 13:13,” But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly.” Their sin exceeded all bounds for moral behaviour, and they were doing those vile acts before a holy and righteous God.{{more}} There are no closets dark enough to hide from God – Isaiah 29:15, “Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord, and their works are in the dark, and they say, who seeth us? And who knoweth us?”. For sure, God sees and knows us!

We read in the book of Genesis where Adam and Eve tried to hide themselves from the Lord, and they failed. Numbers 32:23, “You have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.” God has his way of revealing sin. Luke 12:2, “For there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.” Ecclesiastes 12:14, “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” In recent years we have heard this phrase concerning sodomites, “they have come out of the closet.” Since one cannot hide from God, from whom were they hiding?

Concerning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, the Bible continues, Genesis18: 20-21, “… The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it…” Their grievous sin brought God’s judgment upon the two cities, but not before God sent two angels to deliver Lot and his two daughters. Instead of Lot influencing the inhabitants of Sodom for Christ, they had a vexing effect upon him seeing their unlawful deeds and hearing their filthy conversation. Sodomy is wicked and unlawful in God’s sight and becomes widespread if not forbidden and stopped.

The account given in the Bible in Genesis 19, pertaining to Sodomites, is a perfect example of the extent to which they will go in their wicked behaviour. Their boldness in promoting their wickedness is enhanced as they unite with others of like passion. Sodomites today are mere reflections of sodomites in Lot’s day. Lot invited the two angels God sent to warn him of impending judgment to enter his house for the night. Genesis 19:4, “But before they lay down, the men, of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house around, both old and young, all the people from every quarter.” Men of Sodom, both old and young, were caught up in sodomy. Encircling Lot’s house they cried out, according to Genesis 19: 5 … “Where are the men who came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know them.” Men calling for other men to come out that they might know them sexually.

Lot knew the men of the city were sodomites and that they wanted to abuse the angels of God in a vile and wicked manner. Lot began begging the sodomites in Genesis 19:7, “… I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.” Lot knew the desperation of these despicable sodomites and even offered them his two daughters, who were virgins, instead of the angels. These wicked men wanted men, not women! For a righteous man of God to offer his two virgin daughters to a mob of sodomites speaks volumes about how vile and wretched Lot knew they would be with the angels. Had the angels of the Lord not rescued Lot and smitten the sodomites with blindness, they would have been abused by the wicked mob. Reason was not a part of the sodomite’s mind-set.

Sodomy was so prevalent there that the old men and the young alike, boldly and unashamedly, publicly tried to forcibly take God’s servants to sexually assault them. The reason that they could publicly expose their wickedness without fear or shame is because God had turned them over to a reprobate mind to do what they would. Their supposing “new found freedom” was nothing more than satanic bondage. Their actions were evidence that they had no fear of God or His judgment. Romans 1: 32 “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” Though their sin is worthy of death, they not only continue in their practice of sodomy, but take pleasure in knowing that others are committing the same wickedness.

There is pleasure in sin for a season, but a season lasts a very short time in comparison to eternity. Pleasure may abound today, but rest assured there will be a tomorrow. The wages of sin is death; ever dying but never dead.

The people of Sodom and Gomorrah paid dearly for their wickedness. Genesis 19:24 “Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven.” Luke 17:29 “But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.” Every human being living in those cities died that day from fire and brimstone. Just imagine during those moments it took for the fire to consume them, the people screaming for Lot and the angels to please come back and save them, especially the members of his own family. Their time to repent had passed; it was too late for mercy.

TO BE CONTINUED.
