We should correct Remembrance Day ad

Tue, Nov 13, 2012

Editor: It is aggravating to me that every year at this time, the National Broadcasting Corporation and the other media houses misinform the public about Remembrance Day, and the proceeds from the sale of the poppies.{{more}}

I think a correction should be made. The supreme sacrifice is death, and our men and women in uniform who have made the “supreme sacrifice”, the funds cannot help them.

The truth is that some did make the supreme sacrifice, and funds are needed to help their surviving spouses and dependent children. By now most of those spouses have also died, and there are no longer any dependent children. In addition, there are those who belong to the Legion, and who survived the war, that is, the second one, but are now old, and feeble and need help. These are the main ones, though few, who get help from the proceeds of the sale of the poppies.

How can we allow broadcast of an advertisement which speaks about giving money to people who have made the supreme sacrifice and not hold our heads down? That advertisement which is broadcast every year ought to be revamped to reflect the real situation, and tell the truth.
