Minister Daniel should apologise

Fri, Sept 30. 2011

Editor: I refer to your article of Tuesday, September 27 captioned, “Minister Daniel responds to ‘Carib’ comment” in which Minister of Agriculture Montgomery Daniel declared that “no boat ain’t bring me here in chains, and I did not come here in indentureship, so I know where I come from, and Comrades, I know where I am going.”{{more}}

Such divisive language should not be tolerated from anyone, far less a government minister. Mr. Daniel, shame on you for such bigotry and ignorance. I call on the Garifuna Association and all Vincentians to condemn this statement. As the proud descendant of Caribs myself, I urge you to apologise to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, or better yet spare us any further embarrassment and just resign.
