Too much smut at Carnival

01.JUL.11

Editor: If one would observe what is going in this country, it is fair to say that our country is in a mess. This carnival season and also what we read every week in the newspaper indeed bear out this fact.{{more}}

I recently saw a female artiste performing at one LIME’S functions in Kingstown go on stage and perform almost naked. Tell me, what pride does she have as a female? What message is she sending to other females, especially young girls? We see children dressed in short mini skirts, and even worse dresses, almost naked, parading in bands. I wonder what goes through the minds of parents. Are we not sending a wrong signal to our children that it is okay to be dressed that way and offer temptations to men? Come on, we know it is wrong. I wonder where is the pride of mothers, and by extension females?

We read so regularly of child molestation and incest. Indeed it tells us that our country is in a mess spiritually. The practice of incest is a deep rooted in society, and also of child molestation, but it is now only being exposed somewhat. There are so many cases of child sexual molestation and incest that are still kept secret. Indeed our country is in a mess.

We read the sad stories of men molesting boys, especially in the schools, another dimension to the fact that this country is in a mess. We have really gone so far that only God can save this nation. We need as a nation to get down on our knees and cry to God for mercy and also to repent and turn to him.

As I end, I must heartily congratulate NBC Radio on celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary. It is a station that is a beacon of good things. It is indeed the number one station in SVG. When you listen to other stations and the smut that comes from them, you can feel comfortable that it is not so with NBC Radio. It is a station that any age can listen to. Keep up the good work, NBC Radio. All the best to you, NBC Radio. May you continue to be the number one station in SVG.
