NEEDED! Strong Neighbourhood Watch in SVG

11.MAR.11

Editor: In view of the recent raping of a 10-year-old, I am calling on villagers and those living in towns throughout St.Vincent and the Grenadines to please keep a VERY SHARP lookout for any stranger who may be in your area. Please – look at the shape of his face.{{more}} Look for any feature on his face-for instance, a mold, a scar etc. Look at his build – Is he tall, short, fat, slim? Long or short hair? Then, if something bad happens, the victim may be able to state some distinctive feature of her attacker and help the police apprehend the attacker, as we might be able to describe someone we saw in the area having the features described by the victim.

So, neighbours, even though you may not be on good terms with another neighbour, where crime is concerned, we must care for one another. Forget our differences. We must ask ourselves: Had that 10-year-old girl been my child, how would I have felt? My heart goes out to the distressed father I saw on TV.

So, neighbours, I plead again: Let us have a STRONG neighbourhood Watch and do the things I suggested above. As a result, we may be able to reduce incidents of rape and other crimes committed here in our lovely, scenic island.

Pained,

Suzanne
