Eustace should pay back office support money to SVG Treasury

Editor: Eustace collects $12,500 each month from the SVG Treasury to operate the office of the Leader of the Opposition.

SVG Green Party calls on Arnhim Eustace to pay back to the SVG Treasury over one million dollars he has received as office support from 2001 to 2010.{{more}}

The concerned SVG public are being short-changed by Eustace. As Leader of the Opposition, Eustace has a duty to scrutinise and question the financial management of the ULP government. Under section 75(2) of the SVG constitution, the Opposition Leader is the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, which is meant to question the financial workings of the government.

The Director of Audit has raised hundreds of serious queries about the ULP government since 2001, but Eustace has not pursued these issues. In fact, this committee has only met twice in the past 10 years and has never tabled a report.

The ULP was forced to sell the NCB and still Eustace has not called a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee to question the ULP government’s incompetence in relation the NCB. It seems that Eustace is happy with Gonsalves as PM.

Eustace should pay back over one million dollars he has received as office support from 2001 to 2010. He is not doing his duty of opposition.
