Great job – CWSA, VINLEC

Editor: I have nothing but praise for the response of the utility companies to the outages caused by Hurricane Tomas. The CWSA and VINLEC restoration teams performed with the sort of dedication akin to that of true patriots. The personal sacrifice and selflessness demonstrated by the team members is highly commendable.{{more}}

In times like these, when an act of nature interrupts our water, electricity and phone service, we should be mindful never to take the uninterrupted supply of these services for granted. Utility companies spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to maintain the integrity of their network. It is only, though, with good management, planning and teamwork that continuous delivery of service and efficient response to situations such as what Tomas created, can be realised. Congrats to our utility companies on all fronts.

By way of comparison, I have had personal experience with the far from satisfactory service meted out to customers of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) in Trinidad. At the best of times, the water supply is rationed to significant parts of the country. Put into context the vast financial resources Trinidad has, compared to us, and we can begin to appreciate the superb job done by our CWSA.

LIME (my past employer) has consistently proven the resilience of their fixed and mobile network. The passage of Tomas is no exception. LIME employees are highly trained and their engineers deliver on quality of service every time. This notwithstanding, there are isolated cases where a customer’s service is affected. On a national level, LIME delivers quality.

At the time of writing this letter, I am aware that some persons are still affected by the loss of one or two of the utility services. In the scheme of things, all will soon be restored, and it will undoubtedly be a magnificent job done by our utility companies.
