The enemy uses divorce to get people to accept his lies and deceit
EDITOR: In our last two issues we looked at several areas in which our males and the family were being attacked by the enemy. In this issue weâre looking at the problem of Divorce, another strategy the enemy uses to destroy our families.{{more}}
Marriage was instituted by God. God performed the first marriage between Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. It is Godâs divine plan that a man and a woman be joined together in the holy matrimony of marriage to begin a new family. The Devil (our enemy) has a plan, too, and that plan takes the form of divorce. Over time the devil has led our human race to believe and accept that divorce has a natural place in modern societies.
Over the last decades, divorce rates locally, regionally and internationally, have been steadily increasing at alarming rates. The result of divorce has devastating effects on the family. We see an increase in single parenting and many dysfunctional families. The emotional wounds and scars, especially on the very young members, become insurmountable. The issue of broken relationships goes against Godâs plan when one partner divorces another for just any reason except sexual immorality and commits him/herself to another.
It seems these days that people divorce for just any reason. A woman and a man for instance may decide to have a divorce if they canât see âeye to eyeâ. A man can decide to divorce his wife if for e.g., she loses the youthful and physical attractiveness that she had before child bearing and rearing. A woman may decide that itâs time to move on if for example her husband loses his job and cannot function in his capacity as a provider. Yet Jesus responds to the Pharisees who came to him testing him and saying: âIs it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?â He answered and said to them: âHave you not read that he who made them at the beginning made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother to be joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh. So then they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.â (Matthew 19:3-6 K.J.V).
The Pharisees continued testing Jesus; they said to him: âWhy then did Moses command to give a certificate of Divorce and to put her away?â He said to them: âMoses, because of the hardness of your heart, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality and marries another, commits adultery and whoever marries her who is divorced commit adultery.â (Matthew: 7-8). Jesus himself makes an exception to the rule, therefore a man and a woman cannot divorce for just any reason.
Any other reasons for Divorce are just strategies the enemy uses to get people to accept his lies and deceit. Therefore, we have to begin to reject the devilâs lies and embrace the truth in Godâs words. Only then weâll begin to save our marriages and live according to Godâs Divine Plan
