Politicians need to debate issues, not personalities

Editor: Over the years, I have been staying in touch with the development of St Vincent and the Grenadines, including political developments, and I am not happy about what I am hearing.{{more}}

To be exact, I do not like the way politics is being practiced in St Vincent and the Grenadines, and for that matter, the Caribbean region as a whole.

Personally, politicians are attacking each other – trashing another to gain political points is the dirty part of politics – discussing the issues facing the host nation is the way politics should be practiced.

I don’t understand why people in SVG voted. When politicians get personal with each other, how is that beneficial to the state?

I would like to see politicians stand on one stage and debate the issues facing their nation – economic, social and political. Then voters would be able to decide who is the best candidate for the job.
