Show more respect for the opinions of others

Editor: 2009 was quite interesting. I have been paying attention to the Unity Labour Party (ULP) and the persons who speak on behalf of the party, especially the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Hans King, who is showing interest in East Kingstown.

I often wonder when Hans speaks if I should interpret what he says as the views of the ULP. I hope in writing this letter, I hope I don’t appear to be backward. When the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines spoke about how they felt about the Constitution Reform, Mr. King, while expressing his opinion about the result of Referendum, kept saying that people are not better off, all because they said NO!{{more}} “They are backward!” Why does Hans keep treating us with contempt? Is this the kind of person we want to represent us in Parliament? Why are you so intolerant of other persons’ opinions? I am of the impression that the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines are just waiting for the next election. I say so because I went around to find out why the election is so important.

The Prime Minister did say he got the message in terms of the referendum result. Persons think this up coming election will be used to determine where we are going. From what we are seeing from the ULP, should we continue with them? The answer is NO! Did the ULP lose its way in 2009? Is it the Prime Minister’s fault or lack of performance by the ULP parliamentarians?

The ULP appears to be pregnant with intolerance. If you don’t agree with me, ask Senators Francis and Caesar. The comments which are coming from persons who speak on behalf of the ULP are making persons think twice. The prime minister should distance himself from these persons who speak so negatively about persons who have different views. Let me remind the prime minister that we are still waiting for ‘Together Now’. St. Vincent and the Grenadines first and ‘ULP is for all Vincentians’ that’s where the ULP has lost its way. They have failed to implement things that benefit all. Prime Minister, sit and think about what I’m saying and make changes. It is not too late, Prime Minster. There will be some casualties, but let me remind you, you once said: “You are for St. Vincent and the Grenadines” (SVG).

There have been failures by the ULP. It is time to let them go. Stop listening to persons who are telling you what you want to hear. Take notice, Doc, and look at what’s happening.
