Where were the Boy Scouts?

Editor: After looking at our Independence Day Parade I was motivated through a mixture of disappointment, anger and dismay that there were no Boy Scouts on parade, while other groups have retained or increased their numbers.{{more}}

This is a serious indictment on the current administration of that most noble of organizations. There was a time, not so long ago, when the organization used the Grammar School for training and general meetings for lack of a headquarters, and finances were limited to a small government subvention, fund-raising, and subs paid by members, that the Scouts were able to proudly assemble two guards of thirty each and a contingent of Cub-scouts.

On one occasion I recall the parade commandant asking that Scouts reduce numbers. In contrast, the organization today boasts an impressive headquarters and greater financial support but a distinct lack of membership and commitment! What has happened to the organization that once had over 800 members on roll? Chief Commissioner Deak Cupid certainly has his job cut out for him. I hope that he is able to remove the rot that set in and to return the organization to its glory days!
