Call a spade a spade

23.OCT.09

Editor: I write regarding the story on page 6 of the October 16, 2009 issue of the Searchlight, about an old man who RAPED an 8 year old. I am disappointed that the sentence of this man was reduced and utterly appalled at the way these stories are written.{{more}} How could someone “have sex” with an 8-year-old. An 8-year-old cannot “have sex”. She was RAPED!! Isn’t that what the law calls it? I would be grateful for your response as to why these stories are written that way. Is it because of legal reasons? If not, I plead with your journalists to write these stories with some heart and call a spade a spade. Using euphemisms only makes the disgusting behavior of these deranged and wicked perverts seem less grievous. And we have way too much of that going on in society already.
