06.FEB.09

Dear SVGAT members, patriots and friends, the time has come when we as people of one nation are called upon to carry the torch as a people of “oneness”, as we approach the first month subsequent to the beginning of the 40th anniversary of “The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Association of Toronto and the launching of the 2009 Black History commemoration.{{more}} This is an opportunity for us to look back at our accomplishments as Vincentian Canadians, and to assess our contributions, not as individuals, but as “a people”.

I extend much appreciation to those of you who elected me and sent congratulations for my being elected as President of SVGAT. Our people, my people have bestowed upon me not a title, but a task in preparation to pass on the baton to our next generation for our Association’s 41st year.

What an honour with many expectations; the accountability to implement a cultural shift for the future.

Well, my brothers and sisters, the challenge is mine, but the burden is proportional as it relates to that which is the expectation of all of us.

Like the Eagle, victory will come through the aerodynamics of the crew.

As we resume the election process on February 22/09 under the direction of Consul General Steve Phillips to finalize the election of Officers for our 2009 Executive, followed by an interactive black history session, “we and our genealogy”, I urge you to come to the meeting, reinstate your membership, and strengthen your declaration to building your SVG Ontario organization in preparation for handing over to our young leaders of the 21st century.

We look forward to your support at our first 2009 event, Mothers Day celebration on May 10th. There is a slight change in venue, it will be held this year at the Centennial College Student Centre Hall/Mezzanine.

Please also visit www.vincytoronto.com for a soft copy of our January Insight newsletter and events schedule, which will be updated by Saturday, January 3, 2009.

Respectfully yours,
Elma Gabriel
President,
St. Vincent and the Grenadines Association of Toronto.
