Let me X-plain

02.MAY.08

Editor: My letter in the March 28th issue of Searchlight seems to have upset X. It was not my intention to upset any one but rather to address the propaganda that is currently being presented in place of the truth. In his encyclical, Fides et Ratio John Paul II points to the fact that all people, regardless of race or creed, have an affinity for the truth and immediately reject falsehood as soon as they recognize it as such. John Paul even shows how one of the early church fathers put it another way: “I have met many who wanted to deceive but none who wanted to be deceived”. {{more}} In service of the objective truth, this article will address X’s references to apparent homosexual behavior in the animal world. It will also address X’s claim that the March 28th article incites the getting rid of persons. The article will also disclose to X and Vincentians some history, facts, and treatment options with which they may not be familiar.

To respond to X’s reference to homosexuality in the animal world, it pleases me to present a well referenced, and scholarly article from NARTH which addresses apparent homosexual behavior of animals. The article can be found at this link http://www.narth.com/docs/animalmyth.html. The following quotes summarize the article’s gist: “Properly speaking, homosexuality does not exist among animals…. For reasons of survival, the reproductive instinct among animals is always directed towards an individual of the opposite sex. Therefore, an animal can never be homosexual as such. Nevertheless, the interaction of other instincts (particularly dominance) can result in behavior that appears to be homosexual. Such behavior cannot be equated with an animal homosexuality. All it means is that animal sexual behavior encompasses aspects beyond that of reproduction. (12) We learn further that: The term homosexuality should be limited to the human species, for in animals the investigator can ascertain only motor behavior. As soon as he interprets the animal’s motivation he is applying human psychodynamics—a risky, if not foolhardy scientific approach. (13) This kind of scholarly work, which draws from reputable institutions, and scientists, must be consulted if one is interested in the truth.

As expressed on March 28th and previously, I know that persons suffering same sex attraction did not wish this on themselves and for this reason I do not judge these persons or wish that they be recipients of any unjust treatment whatsoever. At the same time, however, I hold them to the same standards as anyone else. There is currently in our culture a tendency to believe that freedom means doing whatever you feel like; the activists for the homosexual life style are not exempt from this. Imagine what would happen to a society in which everyone or most people went around doing what ever they felt like. It would not be long before we descended into anarchy. True freedom is realized not in doing what we feel like but rather in doing what we are supposed to do. In this way our actions are subject not to any momentary whim or disordered urges but rather intellect and will. This is a major part of growth in maturity; it is a true spiritual growth. I know it takes time and all of us need help to get there. This is why instead of asking the rest of society to adopt a no-holds-barred attitude towards same sex attraction we all should be asking that treatment options such as reorientation therapy and the courage apostolate (http://couragerc.net/index.htm) be made accessible to those who want them. These treatments have helped many men and women to live healed, fuller lives. It is difficult for many to understand why a handful of activists would, therefore, try to deny the existence of these options and consequently prevent people from accessing them. This misguided presenting of same sex attraction as incurable is an intolerable attempt to limit freedom.

Based on X’s comments regarding over population and homosexuality being de-listed from the American Psychological Association’s Diagnostic & Statistical Manual (DSM), a history lesson is necessary: In 1974 the United States (US) adopted the National Security Study Memorandum NSSM 200 or Kissinger report as “The” guide for US foreign policy over the last 34 years (a copy can be accessed at this link).

http://www.lifesitenews.com/waronfamily/nssm200/nssm200.pdf.

The document sets out that population control was of paramount importance to US security by guaranteeing US corporations access to raw materials in the third world countries. The document advocates the sterilization of men and women, abortion, and the enlisting of family planning agencies and mass media to re-educate the third world. Some of these family planning agencies had as part of their population control arsenal the propagation of the homosexual life style. So it came as no surprise that in 1973, the year before the US adopted NSSM 200, that the Roe vs. Wade supreme court decision allowing legally procured abortion and the delisting of homosexuality from DSM were hurriedly and ill advisedly enacted. US population controllers realized that they could not go out in 1974 to preach gospel of population control convincingly if they were not seen to be practicing it in their own country. The US government and corporations were never concerned about increased social standing for homosexuals; the propagation of this lifestyle was simply politically and economically expedient for them. As for overpopulation, it is the old wives tale that keeps us in line.
