Service poor at our commercial banks

Editor: I write to express my dismay at the shabby service being offered by our commercial banks to people in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

It is unacceptable that one should be expected to remain in a queue for over one hour waiting to be served by a teller.{{more}}

When I complained, I was told that I should use the ATM. I would if I could. The ATM however does not buy and sell foreign currency, neither does it sell bank drafts or cash cheques.

I consider it the height of disdain for us as consumers when the tellers one by one leave their stations at the very times when the lines are growing longer.

This reflects very poorly on the management of our commercial banks, and shows how little respect they have for us.

I often reflect on the difference in service offered in North America. A few years ago, I had an account at a bank in London, Ontario which had a policy that if you remained in the line for more than five minutes, your account was credited $5. Needless to say, as soon as the line started to grow, senior staff members would jump up from their desks and begin to serve customers using any available space. Why should we be offered less here?
