Should Christians take part in Carnival?

Editor: There has much debate about Christians participating in Carnival, since the article I wrote on May 26, 2006.

Ladies and Gentlemen: There have been those who claim that Queen Esther participated in a beauty contest, thus it is not wrong as a Christian to participate in a beauty contest. The king wanted a new queen so several ladies were chosen for a contest. {{more}}If one checks the text carefully it would be seen that she did not display her nakedness, but instead she was modestly dressed and was attracted by the king because of her character. She was a lady of character, unlike the queen contestants today who are dressing on stage in a very sexually revealing way.

At the end of the day the purpose was to be accepted as a queen by the king.

Today this is not the case. The Bible tells us in Romans 12:1,2 “not to be conformed to this world but ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Christians ought to be different and not be part of this world, but be an example.

The question is, “Is God glorified by our participation in these activities?” Let us remember that our body is the temple of the Lord and we are to glorify God with our bodies. Therefore, our bodies ought to be used as God’s temple to glorify Him.

Finally, we must remember that as a Christian we ought to come out from the world and be separated and touch not the unclean thing.

Let us not be governed by our own ideas and emotions, but let the Word of God and the Spirit of God direct our lives. For we are the salt of the earth and we are to preserve this nation. May God bless us all.
